Via the high​-​altitude path and Matschuner Joch to the Heimspitze near Gargellen

Approach

Drive on the A14 to the Bludenz/Montafon exit and continue on Montafonerstraße L188 to Gaschurn.

Tip: For this route, it is recommended to arrive and depart by public transport

The regional buses operate throughout the Montafon. The main lines run every half hour from Schruns station.

Arriving by train in Montafon

From Bludenz station, the Montafon railway runs hourly (partly every half hour). There are also direct connections from Lindau (D) and Bregenz.

Parking

Versettla Bahn car park

Directions

Ascent with the Versettla Bahn to the mountain station. From there the climb starts via Burg (2247 m), Versettlaspitze (2372 m) to Matschuner Joch (2390 m). Those who want can include the Madrisella (2466 m). From the junction you reach the summit in about 20 minutes. Otherwise the hiking trail goes around the Madrisella continuing to the Matschuner Joch. After the Matschuner Joch, follow the signs to the Heimspitze (2685 m). From the Heimspitze, return on the same path back to the junction and then follow the signs to Gargellen. You pass the Vergaldaalpe. From there a wide forest road continues to the town center of Gargellen. Return from Gargellen is by bus.

Equipment

Good ankle-high hiking boots with a good tread, hiking poles, binoculars, sufficient provisions and drinks to take along, headwear recommended on hot days

Tips

Rich alpine flora, a visit to the managed Vergaldaalpe is recommended on the descent.
