Tour description

Join Erna as you discover the mining history of St. Anton im Montafon and follow the traces of gypsum mining through a diverse cultural landscape at the entrance to the valley.

At the entrance to the Montafon valley lies St. Anton im Montafon, a town with a rich and varied history. In addition to traditional legends and myths, gypsum mining in particular shaped the community. Until the 1980s, gypsum-bearing rock was extracted here, sorted, crushed in grinding mills, calcined, and then ground into fine gypsum.

Even today, various traces in the townscape and the surrounding landscape serve as reminders of this era. On the Gaglaweg, you’ll walk alongside Erna along the stream, past former mining areas and through quiet neighborhoods, before the trail leads back to the town center.
