Tour description

A via ferrata experience you’ll never forget: The Gauablickhöhle via ferrata takes you through a spectacular natural cave deep inside the rock (don’t forget your headlamp). The moment is particularly impressive when, after about 350 meters inside the mountain, you emerge back into the daylight and the view from the cave’s exit opens up onto the Gaua Valley.

Even the approach from the Lindauer Hut is impressive: the massive rock faces of Drusenfluh, Drei Türme, and Sulzfluh frame the path toward the Rachenwand. The actual via ferrata begins at the “Auf den Bänken” plateau. First, you climb up a few rocky steps before suddenly finding yourself standing in front of the dark entrance to the Gauablick Cave. With a headlamp and full concentration, you venture into the interior of the mountain. After passing through the cave, the via ferrata continues upward over several steep steps to the summit of the Rachenkopf.

The descent follows the blue-and-white-marked alpine trail through loose scree in the Rachen back to the Lindauer Hütte. Alternatively, you can descend via the Karrenfeld—also marked in blue and white—toward the Tilisunahütte.
